Tectyl™ 120
Premium general purpose, corrosion preventive compound
Underbody coatings are engineered to protect vehicle undercarriages and structural components exposed to water, road salt, debris, and mechanical impact. These environments accelerate corrosion and wear, making underbody rust protection a critical factor in vehicle durability and lifecycle cost control. Underbody areas experience continuous exposure to moisture and contaminants combined with abrasion from gravel and debris. Temperature changes and vibration further increase stress on protective layers. Standard paint systems are often insufficient under these conditions, which is why purpose-built underbody coatings are required.
Underbody coatings are typically formulated using wax/asphaltic or polymer dispersion systems, selected according to exposure level and application requirements. Wax/asphaltic coatings such as Tectyl 120, Tectyl 120-EH, and Tectyl 121-LV form thick, thixotropic films that block moisture and oxygen while remaining flexible under mechanical stress. Their controlled flow characteristics allow penetration into seams and irregular geometries before curing into resilient, abrasion-resistant layers.
Polymer-based alternatives such as Tectyl 5660W and Tectyl 5765W-A cure into tough, durable films that provide corrosion protection with the added advantage of water-based chemistry and low VOC content. These systems are particularly suitable where environmental compliance and safer handling are priorities, without compromising underbody rust protection performance.
